As we were choosing which lucky one we'd take home, I do a round up of things that I need. Here, all of a sudden, the lady that helped us (assistant manager) mentionned that we ABSOLUTELY need a cage for the rabbit. Fine by me. So here's the catch, the cage itself is 130$ (the cheapest) and rabbit is 60$.

Gerbil placed on the side of the cashier desk are mistreated. Why? The wheel was extremely small and it was literally blocked by the bars of the cage. Surprisingly, no one cares and no one even check up with those gerbils. Those two little creatures are left alone in the cage without any functional entertainment (I do not know how long it has happened.) Luckily, I told them that the wheel was blocked and it could not rotate. Till then they relocated it to make it functional.

She adds that we have to make sure the cage is big enough for rabbit to move, but the thing is that we don't plan on leaving the rabbit in a cage... She refuses, fair enough, we're respectful people.

So we return the HUGE bin and we buy this bigger cage than the store but for dogs, (there's no such thing as cage for rabbits at canadian tire. We made sure the metalic grids were small enough so that the rabbit won't squeeze itself out.

Great friendly staff and they make sure that the people wanting to buy animals have the proper setup and care. Very honest, kind and helpful!! Have gone for animals multiple times. If youre really ready to take on the responsibility of caring for a little being, they can tell and will be there to help if needed.

Female Syrian Hamsters are fighting and one of them got abused seriously by another (abused one was hissing heavily when bitten at neck by another). When I pointed out to the staff, they told me they are just playing. I try to make the two to stop fighting by knocking a bit on the window, since I cannot tolerate the small creatures are suffering both mentally and physically. The staff was yelling at me and she claimed that they were just playing. Excuse me? Do you have any sense of basic knowledge? They are making hissing sound and you told me they were just playing? The hamsters were about 2 months old, and they must be separated since they are extremely solitary.

Now here's the funny thing, she now tells me that if we get THEIR cage, we're going to get 10% off on all the other necessities for the rabbit. (what... big time upselling...) At this point, we realize they don't really care about the rabbits future lives, they just want to make more sales... Anyhow, we really REALLY REALLY want one of the super duper cute lop rabbit so we were willing to make an extra effort:

Amazing staff! Sam and Monica were very helpful. They have a large selection despite being a small store. 10/10 would recommend!

One week before some time, I went to see hamsters and there were so many new born babies and they were living with their mum. A week later, I came by again, they were eaten by mum as told by one of the staff(only 2 babies left). Hamster mum only eats small babies when she is extremely stressed out or her babies were touched by human beings(scent by human).

We go back to Nature store, assistant manager refuses to see us and refuses to even look at the cage... tells us, it has to be one for ONLY rabbit.

10 mins later, as we look at the rabbits with excitement, another lady came to our help so we asked her some questions as to what are the necessities so that we can raise a happy rabbit.

Bought some Tetras and they contaminated my established tank of barbs within a week with Ich. I later asked them if they knew their stocks were infected and they said they were very aware of it and that it's just a part of the hobby.

"Sorry about that and good luck" was all they had to say. I repeat, do not buy fish here.

Animals are sick, abused in small cages in that store and the staff choose to ignore the situation when two hamsters are fighting.

So here, she tells me how we HAVE to get hay, the little pellet food and water daily and that the rabbit need to be moving freely at least 4 hours per day. Seems fair since we plan on spending lots of time with the rabbit (I work at night and my gf works during day so there's always someone to keep the rabbit company).

Now, 2 hours later, it just hit 5pm, canadian tire just closed, we can't even return the cage... had to carry the heavy cage all the way back home on this -20 degree celcius winter day. It's december 30, really a great way to finish off this year.

Everyone has to make a living, but using fake animal care to cover selfishness of greed. People are really drowned in money. So sickening.

Sick hamsters were left UNTREATED till I told the staff they were unwell. Only till then the staff wrote on the window saying " not for sale for now. "

As we get there, there was only 1 staff and I can tell she was really busy because there were at least 10 customers. She tells me she's going to get help, fair enough.

So she tells me how I can find another cage, doesn't matter where, as long as it's big enough (gives me the measurements). So we leave the store, go to Canadian tire and we buy this huge bin, lady says not ok because too small... and needs metalic rails to cover the top so that rabbit don't jump out.
